Pedal to the Metal! is a Dungeon Magazine article describing the use of vehicles in 7th edition of Gamma World, written by Craig A. Campbell and Ray Franklin.

In addition to importing the rules from D&D 4th edition, it also contains the following notable rules:

  • Acceleration and Deceleration (where starting and stopping a vehicle causes it to move half its speed on that turn.)
  • Variable Damage, where characters or the vehicle take damage depending on the situation.
  • Critical hit table in vehicles, which replaces additional effects from character origins
  • Stunts, which allow better vehicle performance at the cost of damaging it

The article includes the following vehicles:

  • Motorcycle
  • Car
  • Pickup Truck
  • RV
  • Dump Truck
  • Helicopter

The following augmentations are available for vehicles that support them:

Augment Effect
Armored Cab Physical Damage resistance to occupants and vehicle, but reduces carry load
Fusion Power Kit Doesn't require gasoline
Hover Kit Medium or Large vehicle ignores difficult terrain and can go over water
Off-Road Kit Ignores difficult terrain but reduces vehicle speed
Oil Jets Creates an oil-slick behind the vehicle
Ram Reduces damage when ramming roadblocks
Remote Control Kit Allows operating the vehicle when not in the driver's seat
Sidecar Allows a motorcycle to carry an additional passenger or gear
Turret and Mounted Weapon Allows a large or larger vehicle to mount a heavy two-handed gun.
